Changelog

What changed on the site, newest first. What changed in the economy is on the landing.

One entry per deployed batch that changed what the site shows or computes; a month's internal work (tests, documentation, data checks) is one line. Each entry names the record it rests on, a gate in the project's own files. The features themselves, in the order they shipped, are on the About page's timeline; where each was right and wrong is on Validation.

November 2026

  • The Scorecard now shows when each call entered its public archive, and counts only calls archived by the day after they were made; band calls have their own tally. · record SCORE-6
  • The landing page now shows the Capitulation Monitor's state every day, quiet or firing. · record CM-LP-1
  • Correction: the GDPNow page's count of strong final nowcasts, typed through mid-2026, is now read from the data and includes the third quarter (19 and 12, was 18 and 11). Counts typed for a closed window on five other pages (private payrolls, factory hours, median CPI, PPI, CPI) are now read from the data too, with the same figures today. · record CLOSED-WIN-1
  • Correction: the services payrolls page's count of stalled hiring months outside recessions, typed through September 2026, is now read from the data; a revision to August had moved it from 121 to 120. · record SVCPAY-1
  • A glossary of the site's terms is now at /glossary, and the first use of each term on a page explains itself on hover or tap. · record GLOSS-2
  • Every page now has its own preview image when a link is shared; the image carries the page's name, never a figure. · record SHARE-1
  • Each composite's methodology page now opens with an 'In brief' card: what it tells you, how to read it, what it is built from, when it updates, what it can't do, and whether it has worked. · record DOC-02
  • Release dates for 2027 added for the pages whose publishers have posted them. · record FRED-2027
  • Changes, corrections and scorecard results are now published as a feed at /feed.xml. · record FEED-1
  • The State of the Economy methodology now compares each gauge with a public benchmark and says what the gauge adds. · record BENCH-NOTE
  • The State of the Economy methodology now says what Forward Stress's record supports: its fall has led activity; its level has moved with it. · record FS-NOTE
  • Correction: the housing affordability page's stretched band and the single-family permits page's top band listed their years incompletely. Band years, the copper page's correlations, the heavy-truck lag and the recession years beside served counts are now read from the data. The IG spreads page's slightly-elevated band names its window. · record CLAIMS-TIDY
  • Repeated rules and source lines now appear once on the scorecard, the revisions ledger, two methodology pages, the State of the Economy page and the indicator pages. · record RULES-FIX
  • The scorecard now says how gauge band crossings fared in a replay since 2016: about as often as a band simply persists. · record BAND-NOTE
  • Correction: in a month's first days, the State of the Economy cards' one-month change is now worked out from the prior month's end before rounding, so the change and the why line under it agree. · record WHY-1B
  • Correction: the copper price page's record card named September 2026 the all-time high after October's average passed it; the card now says where September ranks, read from the data. · record COPPER-1
  • The scorecard and the State of the Economy methodology now say how trajectory calls fared in a replay since 2016: no better than always calling Stable. · record TRAJ-NOTE
  • Five more indicator pages no longer repeat a sentence. · record REPEATS-2
  • Forward Stress and the Inflation Regime now carry their last reading on the first days of a month, as Momentum already did. · daily engine 0.6.2 · record CARRY-1
  • The State of the Economy methodology now says how far each gauge's first reading tends to move once later data arrive. · record REV-NOTE
  • Correction: the State of the Economy's Time Machine could not load Forward Stress or the Inflation Regime for November 2; a past date with no score now loads instead of failing. · record NULL-1
  • The VIX, PPI and UMich 5-year inflation expectations pages no longer repeat a sentence. · record DUP-SENTENCES
  • The State of the Economy methodology now says what the Inflation Regime measures and how much it leans on core PCE; correction: two tooltips misnamed the Chauvet-Piger recession probability. · record IR-NOTE
  • New trajectory calls are graded on the first-published record at the horizon the card shows; earlier calls keep the rule they were made under. · record SCORE-5
  • The indicator pages' history cards show a dash, never an unchecked typed figure, when their figure has not loaded; the Chauvet-Piger page names its 2001 peak once. · record CARD-FALLBACKS
  • Correction: the Chauvet-Piger recession probability page now reads its figures from the data after the source revised its history. · record CP-REVISE
  • The all-loans delinquency page's Q4 2024 card names its window: the rate had eased by Q2 2026. · record CLAIMS-WORDS-3
  • Pages no longer jump while they load, on the live site and on Time Machine links. · record CLS-1
  • Correction: the GDPNow page's Q2 2020 card calls that quarter the record's deepest fall, not its largest move (Q3 2020 moved further). · record CLAIMS-WORDS-2
  • Time Machine markers sit on the last figure published by the picked date. · record MARKERS-1
  • The Housing Cycle page names its stale inputs in plain words. · record ASOF-MARKERS
  • Date labels on the Capitulation Monitor, Housing Cycle and indicator charts stay inside the chart at its edges. · record PILL-CLAMP
  • On nine indicator pages, a history card's "highest", "lowest", "deepest" or "widest" is now read from the data and reads "second-highest" once a later reading passes it. The JOLTS layoffs bands count their months and name their years from the data ("2 months since 2000, both in 2020"). · record SYNTH-17
  • internal0 commits.

October 2026

  • The State of the Economy full-history chart keeps its date label and axis labels in view and shows scores on a 0–100 scale. · record HISTORY-DIALOG
  • The date label on the State of the Economy history chart keeps its width on phones. · record DATE-PILL
  • Year labels on Time Machine charts now keep their correct width after the page loads. · record TM-LABELS
  • The site lists email addresses for contact, corrections and data questions. · records CONTACT-1, FOLLOWUPS-1
  • The regime strip at the top of the State of the Economy page says it is monthly: its second line opens with the month it is read through ("Aug 2026 monthly close: Momentum: Steady · …") and a note under it reads "The regime is decided once a month on settled months; the cards below show the day’s reading.", live and in the Time Machine. · record SOE-VELOCITY
  • The Time Machine's State of the Economy page reads the months as they were known on the picked date: on a past date the gauge cards' badges, chips and changes, their why lines and the What changed table compare that day's reading with each earlier month as it had settled by then, as Reading Today does. · record SOE-VELOCITY
  • The nightly check now stores its claims re-check: every claim re-run on prod's data overnight is kept as a re-check with the reason "nightly", so a sentence that stops holding overnight is listed under "Claims that moved" on /corrections the next morning, not at the next monthly or deploy re-check. The page's fine print names the nightly one among the stored re-checks. · record CORR-2
  • A gauge band crossing that jumps two bands and settles in the band between now did not hold: the rule on the State of the Economy methodology page and /scorecard ends "it did not hold otherwise". On /corrections, entries about a served sentence that stopped holding have their own kind and chip, "Served sentences". · record HOUSEKEEPING-2
  • Correction: the rest of the State of the Economy page now reads the months as first published, as Reading Today does: the gauge cards' badges and changes, the trajectory sentences and the What changed table. On October 30 the Inflation Regime card still read "↓ 2.2 · vs Sep 2026" beside a sentence saying it fell 15.9 points. · record SOE-VELOCITY
  • Gauge band crossings are now scorecard calls, graded on the next settled month: a gauge whose live reading moves into another band (Inflation Regime neutral → strained on October 29) is a call the day the page first shows it, held if the next month to settle reads in the new band or beyond. The rule is on the State of the Economy methodology page; /scorecard gains a Gauge band chip. · record SCORE-4
  • The landing's Economic breadth row names the net's two terms: "12 improving · 3 deteriorating · broad improvement" (the counts and the band word served from the same census the Economic Breadth page's cards read) in place of "12 of 24 improving · broad improvement", which disagreed to a reader with the net figure beside it. · record A11Y-1
  • Correction: the State of the Economy's Reading Today now judges each gauge's one-month move on the months as first published, with today's live reading as this month, so a drop that reaches the page this month is reported this month. It had compared today's revised months, and on October 29–30 called Inflation Regime's 15-point fall in a day "last month's drop", not extended. · record SOE-VELOCITY
  • Correction: the scorecard's public ledger repository showed test data twice (October 29 05:43–16:46 UTC, and from October 30 05:43 UTC until the repair) after the nightly check's tests reached the real clone; the site's own ledger never moved. The repository is restored by one commit, its README names the incident, and the tests can no longer reach a clone, a key or a remote. · record SCORE-3
  • Each State of the Economy gauge says how fresh its reading is: a line under the score names the newest period its inputs reach and the day the score was last recomputed (on a past date, the day it last changed as known then), and counts any input late by the site's cadence rule, opening a list with its last period, expected day and days late. · record SOE-07
  • The scorecard's ledger is archived independently: after each night's push the site asks the Wayback Machine to capture the ledger and that night's hash file from the public repository, the repository's README names the last capture, and /scorecard's archive line reads "Independently archived <date>" with the link ("not yet archived" until the first capture). · record SCORE-3 §10
  • The heatmap can be filtered by band and searched by topic: a row under the title with the five band chips and today's counts, a "Changed in 30 days" chip in place of "Show only these", and a search box that finds indicators by meaning ("inflation" returns CPI, PPI, core PCE and the breakevens); the narrowed view is in the address and every cell stays on the page. · record HEAT-2
  • Correction: the G7 CLI page's revision figures (how many first prints the site has archived since early 2024, how many were later revised, the largest revision, the newest print's arrival day and where the archive begins) are served from the archive of first prints instead of typed; the October 29 vintage had made the typed ones wrong. · record G7-CLAIMS
  • The heatmap's top band is named "strong" (was "strong+"): the legend, each cell's why line, the colour marks' names, the how-to-read diagram and the methodology sentence read the one word; the colours and thresholds are unchanged. · record HM-01
  • Heatmap cells carry a band mark readable without colour: ▲▲ strong+, ▲ healthy, – neutral, ▼ stress, ▼▼ severe, in each coloured cell's top-right corner and beside the legend's five swatches, read from the same band the colour is; the heatmap methodology's colour-scale paragraph says so. · record HM-01
  • The scorecard's ledger is archived nightly in a public repository (github.com/usmacro/scorecard): each night the site grew the ledger, one commit carries the new lines, the day's hash and a README that says how to verify them; /scorecard's archive line names the last commit, the ledger's size and its sha256. (record SCORE-3)
  • A Scorecard at /scorecard: every forward call the site has made, dated the day it appeared and graded by its engine's own pre-registered sentence when the window ends — held, did not hold or pending, misses included, nothing removed; the regime's stage, the stress signal, the gauges' trajectories and the yield curve's inversions, from an append-only ledger. (record SCORE-3)
  • On /corrections a re-check's moved claims open in place beneath its row (the address keeps which are open), each named by its page with what moved in plain figures ("+3.40 → +3.41", "3,117 → 3,118 first prints"); the footer's copyright no longer runs into its links. · record CORR-1
  • A Corrections page at /corrections: what the site got wrong and fixed, and what a later release changed, dated and append-only — what it read, what it reads now, the cause, the check that now catches it (17 October entries); every claims re-check with the claims that moved at it; the methodology page's re-check sentence links it. · record CORR-1
  • The heatmap's "what changed" line compares more cells and says how many: market closes that are never revised (Treasury rates, credit spreads, VIX, the crypto index) count 30 days back without a night capture, so 40 of 119 cells compare on day one instead of 25; the line reads "compared for N of 115" while any cell has no 30-day record, and such a cell's tooltip says so. · record HEAT-1
  • The heatmap says what changed: a line under its title names the cells whose color differs from 30 days ago, each with an arrow and its new band, and links to the cell; its tooltip says when and from what. Each day is read as the site published it then, never from a later revision. "Show only these" greys the rest (on a phone, hides it); the address keeps the view. · record HEAT-1
  • Internal names are gone from the pages: no stored-series key, job name, file name or record path on 26 pages; each is said in words (a spread is now "computed daily by the site from the two published rates"). Money Market Assets' trend bars cover three months, Housing Affordability's three quarters, its date line reads Q2 2026. · record IDENT-1
  • GDPNow's "as of" date names the vintage its shown value comes from, even while a newer vintage is not yet on the site (it fell back to the day the site received the value); a backfill of its vintages now refreshes the heatmap and the prerendered pages. · record FOLLOWUP-1
  • Housing Affordability's heatmap cell is badged Q, and its page says what sets its pace: a month is added only when that quarter's median new-home price is published. The commercial-paper spread's missing nonfinancial rate is a pause in the Fed's own series; nothing about it changed. · record STALE-2
  • Correction: a gauge's figure is printed at its page's precision, never more, and never on a band edge its reading has not reached — Forward Stress at 59.95 read "neutral · 59.95 / 100" on the landing and its card and "60.0" in the State of the Economy's What-changed table; it reads 59 and 59.9. · record READ-2
  • Correction: copy fixes from an outside review — the home strip says "the site's composites" and how many feed the three gauges; 8 market pairs tried, 1 held, 7 did not (the methodology said all 8 failed); no series key in prose; the unpublished UMich input named; the Regimes counts carry their in-sample caveat; gauge questions on the home page. · record COPY-FIX-3
  • Correction: date lines that stood still while the data moved — GDPNow now reads "nowcast · as of" its newest value (it said "updated Jul 30"), the Buffett sigma its last daily date, the State of the Economy's "last published" the month an input was published (business loans: Aug, not Apr); Money Market Assets badged M. · record DATA-STALE-1
  • Three indicator pages moved to addresses that name their series: /indicator/chauvet_piger_recession_prob (was ny_fed_recession_prob), /indicator/all_loans_delinquency (was auto_delinquency) and /indicator/sofr_tbill_spread (was ted_spread); the old addresses redirect. · record SLUG-1
  • Time Machine dates served from the calls log show a gauge's logged score as it was captured (two decimals, "59.50"), never re-rounded; new captures log the full-precision score, so later dates print the one-rounding figure. · record READ-2
  • Correction: a gauge's figure never contradicts its word. Forward Stress, stored at 59.4983, read "neutral · 60 / 100" on the landing and /how-to-read (rounded twice; the marker drawn in the healthy band); the figure is now rounded once from the stored value — "neutral · 59 / 100" — and takes a decimal only where rounding would land on a band edge (59.6 reads "59.6"). · record READ-2
  • A Validation page at /validation: one card per composite or feature with how it was tested, what it got right and wrong as served counts, its limits, its version and its live record; a changelog at /changelog; a "Validation" section on every feature methodology. · record DOC-20
  • One word for a stretch of time: "period" and "episode" replace "spell", "stretch", "span", "phase" and "run" in 133 sentences on 55 pages; no figure moved. · record WORDS-1
  • A "How to read this site" page at /how-to-read: how a reading is made, the three gauges, the colours, counts instead of forecasts, and a ten-word glossary, in two minutes. · record READ-1
  • The landing page (/) opens with a plain line on what the site does, a "New here?" link, whole-row links from the regime and gauge rows, a short trust strip and a verb for each suite row. · record LP-B1
  • Correction: the count of indicators feeding the three composites (landing strip and /about) is now computed from the engines' rosters — 43 on the live site, 44 on dev (was typed 45 / 46). · record LP-B1
  • Gold and Berkshire Cash return to their standard colour bands on the heatmap (the October 23 change reversed); no edge moved. · record REVIEW-FIX-2
  • Heatmap tooltips name their data month and update date; the PPI page title reads "Producer Price Index (PPI), All Commodities"; other fixes from an outside review. · record REVIEW-FIX-1
  • Correction: the release-schedule phrases on 43 indicator pages and the /data-sources update column reworded to match how often the record actually kept that schedule. · record LIST-CLOSE-1
  • Correction: every band label and every count at a band's edge follows the band's own rule ("X or above" vs "above X"); a few counts moved, e.g. AAII neutral weeks 788 → 765. · record LADDER-LABEL-1
  • Correction: 118 rounded figures quoted over open-ended windows on 61 indicator pages are now computed from the data or dated ("through September 2026"); 38 had drifted. · record CLAIMS-PIN-3
  • Correction: 198 open-ended counts on 63 pages are now computed from the data or dated in their words; two moved (ADP strong-band months 56 → 55, private payrolls 165 → 164). · record CLAIMS-PIN-2
  • Correction: release dates for 121 FRED-backed series now come from the archived first-print record, so no reading is dated before it was published; about two dozen served sentences moved. · record CAL-2
  • Correction: ADP private payrolls are dated by ADP's own release record (189 months); its timing sentences now say "usually"; one count moved. · record ADP-CAL-1
  • Correction: 14 ratios that new data can change (e.g. single-family permits' "1 month in 9") are now computed from the data; ADP's "above 200K" pair reads 55 of 69. · record CLAIMS-PIN-1
  • Correction: 15 qualifier words ("often", "rarely", "about") the data did not support were reworded on 10 fields; every such word is now tested against the record. · record PROSE-2
  • Correction: 98 monthly and weekly sentences fixed — 45 figures now computed, 42 dated, 4 corrected; recession lead times are now counted per recession. · record CLAIMS-DRIFT-2D
  • Correction: recession sentences are tested against NBER's recession months; daily and quarterly open counts computed or dated; the "14 runs" sentences lose their count. · record CLAIMS-DRIFT-2C
  • Correction: record highs and lows and the history cards' titles on the indicator pages are now computed from the data or tested, not typed. · record CLAIMS-DRIFT-2B
  • The nightly read takes a longer window of each series, so a revision older than the window no longer leaves a step in the stored history (found in real retail sales). · record INGEST-EDGE-1
  • Correction: on /indicator/real_retail_sales and /indicator/nfci, five figures the re-read history had made false are now computed from the data. · record DOC-19
  • Correction: false sentences made true under one recession rule (FRED's USREC); AAII's weekly counts computed; "more than" read strictly; PPI's tie resolved. · record CLAIMS-DRIFT-2A
  • Correction: five typed figures, every record low and high on the existing-home-sales page and the Nasdaq / S&P 500 pairs are now computed from the data. · record CLAIMS-DRIFT-1
  • Three University of Michigan sentiment series are no longer shown on the public site (its terms forbid republishing); the State of the Economy still counts them among its inputs. · record UMICH-HIDE-1
  • Correction: every count on the site states the rule it is counted by; gold's jumps and the yield-curve count are computed from the data. · record COUNT-FIX-1
  • Correction: untested wording on indicator pages made true to the data; the OFR credit-stress counts follow one rule. · record PROSE-FIX-1
  • /capitulation-monitor: an input whose feed has gone stale abstains instead of voting, and every input shows the date of its latest observation. · record CAPMON-LIVE-1
  • The site's "today" is the US Eastern calendar day, so the live edge and every date label turn over at midnight New York time. · record LIVE-EDGE-TZ
  • Time Machine: the words beside a past date match what the page shows — "calculated" labels, dates and counts read from the record for that day. · record TM-COPY-1
  • Time Machine: on a past date, "today" and "now" are replaced by the day's own name. · records TM-COPY-2, TM-COPY-3
  • Correction: the Buffett indicator's headline was rounded twice (238% shown for 238.52%); every displayed figure is now rounded once, half up, and extreme-value dates read in plain form. · record HYG-41
  • Correction: typed figures that new data can falsify are now computed; rounded ratios served; open-ended counts closed at their month; two unverifiable figures resolved. · record CLAIMS-FIX-2
  • Copper prices come from the World Bank's Pink Sheet from August 2026 on; copper/gold's open firing is marked open and its record high computed from the data. · record DATA-3-COPPER
  • Time Machine: each page at a past date shows what the live page showed that day, from the site's own record; nothing calculated appears until the record has answered. · record TM-CALLS-1
  • Every page carries its own first-paint data and is rebuilt after every data job, so no number is replaced on load and the loading frame is gone; /about shows "Counted on {date}". · records FLASH-3A, FLASH-3B
  • Correction: two University of Michigan figures are computed from the data rather than typed. · record CLAIMS-FIX-1B
  • /confluence: each Today card names its own data date, and its last three raw dates read in the site's date form. · records HYG-37, HYG-38
  • Time Machine: on past dates the regime record stops at the months the site had recorded by that day. · record TM-LOOKAHEAD-1
  • /state-of-the-economy: the Time Machine's "today" is the live page, every date says what it means, and the banner says "settled" only about a settled month. · record SOE-DISPLAY-1
  • /methodology#indicator-study publishes the 628-test indicator study — what was tested, what held (nothing), and how far short. · record WTW-PUBLISH-1
  • Correction: ten typed figures that disagreed with the data corrected; every typed figure on the site now has a test. · record CLAIMS-4
  • The dollar index is read as it was known at each date (a nine-day release rule); the seam is disclosed on the State of the Economy methodology ("up to eight days"). · Forward Stress vintage 0.5.1-fs-vintage · record PUBLAG-5
  • The State of the Economy's stored record was recomputed on the revised benchmark; the Revisions Ledger's basis corrected. · record SOE-DRIFT-1
  • Money velocity no longer reads a quarter ahead; SLOOS and UMich take one release lag; the copper → gold label is computed from the data; ISM's 2027 dates added. · record CODEFIX-1
  • Correction: 45 sentences flagged by the first production re-check — moving counts now computed, one unmatched "69" corrected. · record CLAIMS-FIX-1
  • /heatmap no longer appears empty to crawlers: a failed or slow data fetch never wipes the prerendered page. · record SEO-4
  • The removed margin debt and stock fund flows pages redirect to /heatmap. · record REDIRECT-2
  • /methodology gains "How this site keeps itself true", a plain-words section with every figure computed. · record TRUST-1
  • Sentences over 220 characters rewritten shorter across the site. · record LONG-1
  • Each indicator page's data line shows the next scheduled release date. · record WTW-1
  • Page titles and descriptions fitted to search display limits (17 descriptions rewritten), one heading per page, retired URLs redirect; no published calibration verdict changed. · record SEO-3
  • Correction: figures that change with new data are now computed from it on every page; the ones that stay typed are registered and re-checked monthly. · record CLAIMS-2-3
  • Residential investment as a share of GDP is coloured only at its extremes (its own quintiles), replacing fixed levels. · record LADDER-4
  • Correction: 126 discrepancies on the feature and methodology pages fixed — 83 sentences restated, 29 figures now computed, 6 removed. · record CLAIMS-1
  • Correction: 123 FAQ answers on 59 indicator pages corrected against the record; figures that move are now computed. · record FAQ-APPLY-1
  • The eleven quintile-coloured indicators (ten housing series and money-market assets) are coloured on the data available at each date; 1,243 of 4,978 past month-ends change band, today's unchanged. · record LADDER-3
  • GDI is read on BEA's real series; the 15 fixed-level indicator pages explain their colour thresholds; every band count is computed. · record LADDER-2
  • Drifting feeds repaired: EBP and the three OFR stress indexes take every revised value from their source files; other drift rows closed or listed. · record DATA-4

September 2026

  • The 36 indicator pages rewritten so far reworded in plain language: the point before the number, one number per sentence, a feel for the size beside the exact figure. · record PLAIN-1
  • Economic Breadth, the Housing Cycle, Profit Share and Valuations now read each historical figure only once it had been published; live readings unchanged. · Economic Breadth 2.0.0-eb · Housing Cycle 2.0.0-hc · record PUBLAG-4
  • The State of the Economy record, the Regimes, the stress signal and the Capitulation Monitor are computed on the as-known record; two calendar faults fixed (OECD CLI, money-market assets). · record PUBLAG-3
  • A release calendar and an as-known layer: every engine's history recomputed on the dates each figure became public; 23 published findings re-read on it. · record PUBLAG-2
  • Correction: seven FAQ answers that gave advice rewritten to the record with counts, their extremes cards corrected; the multpl value no longer written into the previous month. · record AUDIT-FIX-2
  • The Investor Checklist retired from every indicator page; the heatmap's 2009 quick pick states the fact, not a buying call; AI answers that advised purged. · record AUDIT-FIX-1
  • 334 served strings on 69 routes showed a hyphen where a minus is meant; they now use the true minus sign (−). · record MINUS-2
  • One chart modal, tooltip and legend, one summary card, eyebrow and footer, one stat block and period table on every page — the page-by-page copies retired. · records STD-2A, STD-2B, STD-2C
  • Charts on phones redrawn to use the width (1,064 charts measured), the yield curve's line fixed, and one shading vocabulary across charts. · record CHART-1-PHONE
  • /yield-curve replaces the Market Relationships monitor: of eight cross-asset relationships tested, only the 3-month/10-year curve held (7 of 9 inversions since 1982 preceded a recession). · record YC-1
  • Correction: the Buffett indicator divided each day by a GDP figure not yet published (up to four months ahead); fixed, and the other valuation lenses' revision basis disclosed. · record VAL-PIT
  • The State of the Economy methodology says what its record shows: "below 40 preceded recessions" holds only for Forward Stress; "above 60 is equity-favorable" is contradicted on all three gauges. · record SOE-3
  • The State of the Economy says how much of its record is truly first-published, measured on the weight each gauge used, by era. · record PIT-1
  • /state-of-the-economy View B shows the gauges on the numbers as first published beside the revised series (20 years on desktop, 10 on a phone). · record SOE-2
